What would happen if a portal to a fantasy world, where dragons, gods, and magic exists?GATE sets out to answer this question.

The anime starts out with the main character, Itami Yoiji, 33 year old otaku is in the middle of the "Ginza Incident where a portal to the alternate world opened in the middle of Japan and hundreds of armored soldiers and dragons laid waste to the city, only to meet with modern weaponry and wiped out instantaniously. Meanwhile, Itami single-handedly Evacuates all the people from the district, Placing him as First Lieutenant, and the most crucial piece in exploring the new world.

Once the military is sent in, they are immediately met with oppisition, which with the primitive weaponry they have, are blown away, quite literally. The military and Itami set out to make peace in this land, hoping for trade relations and comprimise.

The sub-plot, in true anime fashion, follows Itami being main buffer between the military, and the new world. He meets many new people, and with his 'otaku' knowledge is able to respond and help the girls of diffrent races. Leading to many comedic, tragic, and heartfelt moments between characters.

Overall, GATE is an anime I'd reccomend to anyone just starting anime, because it has the perfect mix of elements to keep you interested in the story. Never have I felt that it lacked in any areas. Nice pacing, amazing animation, a beautiful art style, and great character development. If I were to rate this anime, It would be a 9/10
